GLAZING POLICIES…Every student is required to watch the Glazing Expectations video and must adhere to the standard set in the video. When studio managers load the glaze kilns, if they suspect a potential problem, the pot in question will be returned unfired to the glaze stands with a note explaining the problem.
Wax at least 1/4 inch at the bottom of every pot
Before you put your glaze piece on the glaze shelf, wipe the bottom of the pot, perfectly clean, including the quarter inch
If you’re trying, a new glaze combination, use the combination on the inside of the pot not on the outside
In general, don’t stay in a glaze more than three seconds
Before you dip again, make sure the bottom of the pot is wiped off and the other glaze is dry
Please only have one lid off of glaze at a time so we do not contaminate them
When stirring the glaze buckets, either use the black shovel tool or your hands so that you get all the glaze at the bottom of the buckets mixed in. The whisks in general do not mix up the thicker glazes well
Use butterscotch and flux carefully
Make sure your hands and tools are very clean when you’re going from one glaze bucket to another
